Celebrating Australian Made Week 2026 — From a Local Business
Australian Made Week 2026 feels like the right moment to tell a story we don’t tell often enough: Why we chose to align with Crimsafe, what it means to manufacture it here on the Sunshine Coast and to be recognised as a local Crimsafe licenced manufacturer.
This is our story of why we chose Crimsafe.
Who Is North Coast Blinds & Security?
We’re a family business, established in 1997, based at Kunda Park on the Sunshine Coast. For more than 28 years, we’ve been helping Sunshine Coast homeowners and businesses with window furnishings, security screens, shutters and awnings – all custom-made and installed by our local team.
What makes us different from a showroom that simply orders products in? We manufacture here. Our factory at Kunda Park is where Crimsafe products are cut, fabricated and assembled to Crimsafe’s strict specifications before they’re installed in homes across the Sunshine Coast, from Caloundra to Noosa and everywhere in between.
When we say made locally by locals, we mean it.
What Does It Mean to Be a Licensed Crimsafe Manufacturer?
This is worth explaining, because not every business that sells Crimsafe is authorised to manufacture it.
Crimsafe operates a licensing system. To become a licensed manufacturer, a business must meet Crimsafe’s standards for training, quality control, and production. It’s not a rubber stamp – it’s a commitment that the product you receive has been fabricated correctly, using Crimsafe’s proprietary mesh and components, by a team trained to do it right.
At North Coast Blinds & Security, our manufacturing staff are specifically trained by Crimsafe. That training is what ensures:
- Every screen is made to measure for your exact opening
- The Screw-Clamp™ fastening system is applied correctly – the feature that makes Crimsafe mesh virtually impossible to pull from the frame
- The product performs exactly as tested – and the warranty is valid
That last point matters more than people realise. A Crimsafe product installed by an unlicensed operator may look the same. But the warranty, and the performance guarantee behind it, is tied to licensed manufacture. When you choose North Coast Blinds & Security, you’re getting the real thing – fabricated correctly, from the start.
Why We Aligned With Crimsafe
Choosing which products to incorporate into a business is one of the most important decisions a trade business makes. You’re not just selling something – you’re putting your name and your reputation behind it every time you walk out of a customer’s home.
We chose Crimsafe because we believed then, and believe now, that it is simply the best security screen system available in Australia. That conviction hasn’t wavered in over 28 years.
Here’s what underpins that belief:
The Product Has Been Independently Tested
Crimsafe doesn’t ask customers to take its word for it. Independent testing by the University of Queensland found that Crimsafe significantly exceeded the impact levels required by Australian Standards – and dramatically outperformed competitor products.
In practical terms:
- Crimsafe Regular withstands up to 550 joules of impact
- Crimsafe Ultimate withstands up to 750 joules
- Crimsafe Commercial withstands up to 1,200 joules
The Australian Standard requires just 100 joules. The gap is significant.
The Technology Is Genuinely Unique
Crimsafe’s strength comes from two things working together: the Tensile-Tuff® stainless steel mesh and the Screw-Clamp™ fastening system. Tamper-resistant screws are driven through the clamp, through the mesh, and into the frame – meaning the mesh cannot be separated from the frame under attack.
No other product on the market does this. It’s patented. It’s what makes Crimsafe, Crimsafe.
It Meets the Sunshine Coast Climate
The Sunshine Coast presents specific challenges for building products – salt air, intense UV, high humidity and the occasional severe weather event. Crimsafe’s stainless steel mesh is corrosion-resistant, and Crimsafe Ultimate blocks up to 53% of solar heat gain and 62% of UV rays. For coastal homes, this isn’t a bonus feature – it’s a practical necessity.
The Warranty Backs It Up
Crimsafe’s standard warranty is 10 years. With online registration Crimsafe Classic and Regular extends to 12 years and Crimsafe Ultimate extends to 15 years. These are backed by licensed manufacture – meaning they’re valid when the product is fabricated and installed by a business like ours.
What Australian Made Means in Practice
Crimsafe is proudly Australian-made, designed, developed and manufactured in Australia. When Sunshine Coast homeowners choose Crimsafe through North Coast Blinds & Security, they’re supporting:
- An Australian brand with 30 years of continuous innovation
- A local Sunshine Coast business that manufactures the product here, at Kunda Park
- Local jobs and local expertise
Australian Made Week is a reminder that where things are made matters. The products in your home – especially the ones designed to protect your family – are worth scrutinising. With Crimsafe and North Coast Blinds & Security, that scrutiny holds up!
The Decision to Manufacture — Not Just Resell
Being an authorised Crimsafe Manufacturing Licensee is different from simply selling Crimsafe products. It means our team is specifically trained by Crimsafe to manufacture each screen and door to exact specifications – here, locally, at our factory in Kunda Park.
That matters for a few reasons most homeowners don’t think about at quote time:
- Every product is made to measure for your specific opening – not picked from stock. A Crimsafe screen or door that doesn’t fit precisely doesn’t perform precisely.
- Our manufacturing staff are trained and assessed by Crimsafe. The product you receive is built the way Crimsafe intended it to be built.
- If something needs attention after installation, we are accountable – as both the manufacturer and the installer. There is no ‘talk to the supplier’ referral loop.
- Being local means we understand the Sunshine Coast environment: the salt air, the humidity, the UV intensity that accelerates degradation in lesser products, and the storm season that tests every entry point in your home.
