Three ways to get summer ready with North Coast Blinds

Getting Summer Ready

Now that the warmer weather has arrived on the Sunshine Coast, it’s a good time to be thinking about getting your home ready for Summer. Particularly given that there are only 11 weeks until Christmas!

There are many ways to help cool your home down in the summer months besides turning on the air-conditioning. All it takes is a bit of preparation and research, and a chat with us here at North Coast Blinds & Security!

We’ve identified below three key permanent measures to help cool down your home this Summer:

1 – Screening your windows and doors

There are several forms of screens to choose from to help maximise airflow throughout the home whilst providing security for your family:

  • Crimsafe is the ultimate screen for both doors and windows. Crimsafe lets the air through the house, whilst keeping you safe at the same time. Their screens have undergone a range of energy efficiency testing and improve the energy efficiency of a window by up to 53%.
  • 7mm diamond grill safety screens are a popular security solution for the modern home. The safety screens are available with a single lock or triple lock system and come in hinged or sliding formats.
  • Keep the insects out and allow airflow through your house with Insect screens and doors.

3 – Good window and door design

The Australian Window Association estimates that up to 87% of a home’s heat comes in via its windows!

It is essential to choose the right window and door design and size for your home to direct the airflow to where it is needed.  Some options include sliding, double hung, louvre, awning and casement windows, hinged, sliding and bifold doors.

  • Sliding windows/doors are the most functional system used to allow airflow
  • Double hung windows are vertical sliding windows which allow the hot air to escape through the upper and/or lower opening.
  • Louvre windows are small panels of glass, timber and aluminium that tilt to open for airflow.
  • Awning/Casement windows have great appeal ensuring a constant airflow

3 – Blinds, Shutters and Awnings

Using both indoor blinds and outdoor awnings will help reduce the heat coming in during the warmer months. We have a huge range of products to help make your home more energy-efficient and protect indoor furnishings such as carpets and furniture from the sun’s rays.

Blinds

Blinds can be used to reflect, block-out or divert sunlight depending on your needs. Different blind types include:

Shutters

Shutters are designed to provide varying control of light and ventilation and are often teamed up with insect screens.  When open, they allow light and a nice breeze to flow in. When closed, they offer retention of cool air in the Summer.

Awnings

Awnings provide an excellent alternative to protecting your house from the impacts of the Summer sun as they provide shade and help cut down on cooling expenses.
